8 Ways To Collect Yourself When You're Too Baked

When you first start smoking cannabis, it’s difficult to figure out your limits. Sometimes you get too baked and need to calm down. There are ways to avoid that dreaded feeling of paranoia when you get high, but what do you do if you’re already there? Don’t stress, there are ways to calm yourself down when you’ve had too much.

Drink Water

Cannabis can dehydrate you, which is one of the reasons smoking gives you a dry mouth or 'cottonmouth.' It’s important to make sure that you drink water when smoking, but it’s especially important when you’ve had just a bit too much. This accomplishes two things, you rehydrate yourself and you give yourself a simple task to focus on, which will take your mind off being too high.

Eat Some Black Pepper

Next time you get too high, try eating some black pepper, or better yet chew some peppercorns if you have any lying around. Black pepper contains terpenes, which will counteract the effects of THC. Some terpenes help enhance your high, and others will help you calm down. Isn’t science cool?

Lie Down And Relax

This might seem like an obvious tip, but it’s obvious because it works. If you’ve smoked too much, try going away from the circle and find a chill place to lie down and try to turn your brain off. If you think you can fall asleep, try to sleep it off. If you can’t fall asleep, don’t focus on trying too hard, because you’ll just stress yourself out more. Try to focus on keeping your breathing steady and even.

Get Some Fresh Air

If you think you’ve had too much, go out and take a walk. It will do you some good to get out of the smoke-filled room and get some fresh air. Yes, exercise can enhance your high, but I’m not telling you to go out and do some heavy cardio. Walking will give you something else to focus on, and help clear your head.

Take A Shower

Showers feel great and are relaxing, even when you’re not high. The steam from the hot water will open up your pores and make you feel a lot better. You’ll come out feeling clean and refreshed. Obviously if you’re at someone else’s house you should ask first, or just splash some water on your face.

Stop Worrying About People Knowing That You’re High

This one is all in your head. Stop worrying so much that people know that you’re high. Of course your friends know, you just smoked with them. They just want you to have a good time. As far as the cashier at the gas station goes, he probably doesn’t know. If he does, then he surely does not care. He’s probably going to do the same thing when he gets off of work. People really don’t notice half of what you think they do.

Eat Some Pistachios

This simultaneously helps weed anxiety and takes care of the munchies! Pistachios and pine nuts contain pinene, a terpene which counteract the effects of THC. As stated above, some terpenes enhance THC, some cancel it out. Limonene is a terpene found in the peels of lemons and limes, which also works the same way as pinene.

Stop Smoking

If you’re experiencing cannabis related anxiety, then you should avoid smoking, at least for the rest of the night. Try again tomorrow when you’re in a new situation, you’re around different people, or by yourself. You should have better luck!

Getting too baked has happened to everyone at least once, so don’t worry if it happens to you. Even the most seasoned smoker has moments where they get a little too messed up. The important thing is to relax and talk yourself through it. It’s all in the head man!
